Funeral services for Helene Tanner, resident of Ponca City for over 30 years, will be at 10 a. m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member. The Rev. G. Kenneth Gates, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, under direction of E. M. Trout and Sons Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Tanner died Monday morning in Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City, following a short illness.
Born February 10, 1896, in Aurora, Ark., she was the daughter of John and Mary Sisemore. At the age of one she came with her family to Oklahoma and resided in Bartlesville while growing up. She received her early education in Bartlesville, and later attended the St. Louis (Mo.) Business College.
She and Homer N. Tanner were married Sept. 23, 1923, at Chicago. The couple later lived in New York City before coming to Oklahoma, and to Ponca City in 1942.
At one time Mrs. Tanner was an employee of The Ponca City News. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, American Association of Retired Persons, Ponca City Art Association, Pioneer Historical Society, and the Ponca City Woman's Club of which she was president at one time. She had served as president of the Garden Club Council, was president of Petal Pushers Garden Club, and had served on the Ponca City Library Board for 15 years..
Surviving are her husband of the home, 310 North Fourth; a son, Homer Tanner Jr. of Daingerfield, Texas; a daughter, Gloria Svanas of Odessa, Texas; five grandsons, two great-grandsons, and two great-granddaughters; also a sister, Mrs. Bob Bateman, Bartlesville.
A memorial fund has been established with the Ponca City Library, and contributions may be made in Mrs. Tanner's name directly to the library. |
